About

Join us for an afternoon screening of Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s Querelle (1982). In an expressionistic soundstage vision of a French seaport town—bathed in fiery hues and bristling with phallic spires—a strapping sailor and unrepentant criminal comes ashore to arouse passion, rivalry, and violence among the libidinal denizens drawn into his orbit. Querelle finds director Rainer Werner Fassbinder pushing his taboo-shattering depiction of gay desire to delirious extremes—the screen alive with bold color, theatricality, and a dark humor that keeps desire perpetually off-balance. In its surreal, ecstatic visuals and unflinching politics of the gaze, the film moves through terrain that GaHee Park knows well. Enjoy the film and themed snacks as part of this series inspired by GaHee Park’s exhibition Behind the Curtain. Come early or stay late to visit our galleries—free admission is included with your ticket!
