Tuning is a four-week live virtual session led by sound artist Iana Chugunova, where participants perform Pauline Oliveros's Tuning Meditation together with nine custom-trained language models (LLMs) via Zoom. These AI voices learn directly from human breath tones in real time without recording any actual voice data, adapting and evolving as participants sing short tones over 30-minute sessions held every Wednesday morning from October 7 to 28, 2026. The project simultaneously functions as both a public participatory exercise and a research phase for Chugunova’s upcoming interactive sound installation commissioned by Modal x Gray Area, exploring deep listening and human-machine attunement through a unique intersection of sound, AI, and collective ritual.
